The unemployment rate in the Basque Country stood at 6.8% in the third quarter of this year, 1.1 points higher than in the previous quarter (12,500 more unemployed), according to data compiled by the Basque Institute of Statistics, Eustat.
The number of employedpersons has decreased by 4,100 persons and the activity rate (taking into account the population aged 16 and over) has increased by three tenths from the previous quarter, to 56.3 per cent.
So there are 73,600 unemployed and 1,010,400 employed.
Compared to the previous quarter, unemployment among men and women has increased. The unemploymentrate among men has risen by one point, to 6.3%, and that ofwomen by 1.2 points, to 7.3%. Youth (16-24 years) Theunemployment ratehas risen by 1.6 points.
By territory, compared tothelast quarter, the unemployment rate in Bizkaia has increased by 1.2 points, to 7.9%,in Gipuzkoa 0.6 points has increased to 4.7%, andin Álava the unemployment rate has increased by 1.9 points in the previous quarter.
Gipuzkoa has the highestoccupancy rate (72.7%), followed by Álava (71.9%) and Bizkaia (70%).
By sector, the number of employed persons decreases in the service sector (0.5 per cent) and construction (2.3 per cent), while the number increases in the primary sector (6.5 per cent) and industry (0.1 per cent).
