Parliament will discuss the full amendments to the Budgets without the risk of paralysing the draft
The absolute majority of PNV and PSE-EE guarantees that the 2026 accounts will continue to be processed, despite criticism from EH Bildu, PP, Sinte and Vox of the draft budget.
The amendments to the entire 2026 draft budget will be debated today in the Basque Parliament. All the opposition groups, namely EH Bildu, PP, Sintre and Vox, have tabled amendments to the whole. However, they will not succeed, thanks to the absolute majority of the PNV and the PSE-EE, so the draft budget will probably go ahead until the final approval, scheduled for 23 December.
The project approved on 28 October amounts to 16,378 million euros, 4.1% more than in 2025. Housing is the area that has grown the most, with 482.2 million (+6.8%), followed by Securitywith 850 million (+6.4%).
EH Bilduhas reproached the Basque Government for its lack of "willingness to negotiate" and has focused on housing policy, proposing a public-private fund of $1 billion to attract investment.
Forthe PP, the project "impoverishes" Basque society. Sumarsays the accounts "reinforce inequalities" and regrets that no further proposals have been received from the Basque Government.
In plenary, the Government will make a 30-minute speech in defence of the Budgets, followed by a 30-minute round for and against each amendment. Then there will be 10 minutes of answers and, finally, votes.
All indications are that the amendments will be rejected and the budget will continue.
