The Basque Government will double renewable electricity generation with a joint investmentof 80 million with private industry partners, until 2030. To this end, it has developed a guide called 'Priority Areas of Action', which aims to disseminate 'realistically and rationally' the major developments in wind and photovoltaic generation.
\u00The Minister of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability of the Basque Government, Jáuregui, presented at the press conference following the Governing Council the "priority areas of action of the EVE" identified for the deployment of large wind and photovoltaic power generation facilities in the Basque Country Mikel Jauregi.
The document envisages eleven 'large solar and wind power plants' by 2030: in Álava, Ekian 3 (24 MW), Vitoria Solar 2 (35 MW), Vitoria Solar 1 (35 MW), Lantarón (50 MW), Ekienea (108 MW), Labraza (40 MW), Azazeta (40 MW).
Jauregi has explained that the Basque Government will seek private partners to jointly invest in these projectsand will also cooperate with the other institutions involved in their implementation.
With this step, the Basque Country would double its capacity to generate renewable energy in order to move towards its own energy autonomy. The aim is to ensure greater security of supply, industrial competitiveness and social welfare.
"External energy shocks."
Mikel Jáuregui warns that "Euskadi must make progress in energy autonomy by developing the capacity to generate renewable electricity." The counsellor adds that energy autonomy is a strategic need for Europe and the Basque Country in the face of the new geopolitical reality, and that it is therefore necessary to "strengthen the autonomy and energy security of the Basque Country in order to make our homes and industries less vulnerable to external energy shocks. "
In this way, it explains that the Basque Government, through the Basque Energy Organization (EVE) and through public-private cooperation, will invest EUR 80 million in large photovoltaic and wind developments, together with industrial partners, until 2030.
These wind and photovoltaic projects are expected to generate 450 MW. This, together with the increase of 300 MW of self-consumption planned until 2030, will double this own electricity generation, improving the ratio from 7.9% to 15%.
In this regard, the EEC will accelerate its line of work with potential industrial partners to develop projects identified in priority areas of action until 2030.
