The discount on diesel has risen from 10 cents per litre to 20 cents, while the reduction in petrol has fallen from 10 cents to 5 cents.
Why did the diesel discount go up?
Diesel rose 15.7% in July, exceeding the limit set by the Spanish Government to activate the safeguard clause, a measure that allows a temporary increase in the bonus when fuel prices rise significantly.
In June, the price of petrol and diesel rose by less than 15%, so the timetable for phasing out aid was continued. However, in July the increase in diesel automatically activated the clause and has caused the discount to reach 20 cents per litre from 1 September.
What discount is applied to gasoline?
In the case of petrol, the rebate will be 5 cents per litre, compared to 10 cents in August.
Gasoline rose 7.3% in July, well below the 15% required to activate the safeguard clause, so the discount continues with the progressive withdrawal planned by the government.
How's fuel aid going?
The Royal Decree-Law, adopted at the end of June, amended the aid system in force since March, returning fuel VAT to the general rate of 21%, and the bonuses were set in the hydrocarbon tax.
According to the original schedule, a 15 cent per litre rebate was introduced in July, 10 cents in August and 5 cents in September. As a result of the evolution of diesel prices in July, this fuel has been temporarily excluded from this schedule, with a 20 cent bonus.
Aid initially expires at the end of September
The advance inflation data for August has led to a new increase in fuel prices, the exact amount of which is still unknown, although the mechanism provided for in the decree does not provide for further discounts to be activated by price developments in August.
The response plan only provides for this aid until the end of September. The government has indicated that it is monitoring the development of Iran's economy and the impact of the conflict, but has not yet announced that the bonuses will continue beyond that month.
