ELA accuses the Navarre Government of being "silent" in the face of Volkswagen's legal violations
According to the union, the Labor Inspectorate detected 146 "fraudulent" temporary contracts in Volkswagen Navarra and forced the company to make 93 indefinite contracts.
The ELA union has denounced the "silence and inaction" of the Navarre Government in the face of the legal violations of the company Volkaswagen Nafarroa.
During their morning appearance in Pamplona, Imanol Pascualand Unai Martínez, Coordinator of ELA in Navarra and Secretary General of the Federation of Industry and Construction, respectively, have demanded that the Foral Government "intervene to ensure that VW complies with the law".
According to the union, the Navarra Social Court and the Labour Inspectorate have found that Volkswagen's "recruitment of temporary workers and payment of remuneration for purposes and performance are fraudulent and discriminatory".
As explained, following the complaint filed by ELA, the Labour Inspectorate "seized146 temporary fraudulent contracts and forced the company to make 93 indefinite contracts ", but has not yet complied with the order.
In addition, following another application filed by ELA, which was joined by LAB and CGT, the Social Court has ruled that "variable pay discriminates against persons on medical leave".
In this regard, they have considered "particularly reprehensible" the position of UGT and CC. OO in the trial. "In fact, they asked the judge to drop the lawsuit, adhering to the company's allegations. This attitude is all the more striking given that at the Seat Martorell factory they have strongly opposed linking this fee to presentism because it violates equal treatment and non-discrimination," they add.
ELA has stated that "VW Navarra, UGT and CC. OO. have decided to blackmail and threaten workers, pointing to ELA, LAB and CGT as responsible for the situation." has accused UGT and CC. OO. of agreeing to "an illegal recruitment system that only serves the interests" of the Directorate.
A profit of 163 million euros.
Faced with this situation, they have asked the Foral Government to take steps to enforce the law. "It must force compliance with the VW law, without charging these costs to workers, without threats or redundancies. All the more so given that VW Navarra has made a profit of EUR 163.1 million in 2023 and 2024. "
They have also recalled that since 2017 the company has received more than 6.6 million public euros to encourage the hiring of young people.
"The resolutions reached by the ELA legal services are a severe blow to the network of VW, UGT and CC. OO. unions," they conclude.
