Petronor stopped all the units at the Muskiz refinery at 5.15 p.m. for lack of electricity.
According to a statement, all security measureshave been automatically activated and black smoke has emerged from the three torches.
They have also stopped the plant "ensuring safety conditions, and all emergency systems are operating properly."
Petronor explained that torches are "essential" security devices in industrial facilities to release pressure under certain circumstances. Torches are constantly monitored, flow, temperature and flame appearance are measured, and all elements are regularly inspected. These have the function of burning gases produced by any eventuality, preventing their emission into the atmosphere.
The company has stated that torches "can be quite striking at times, exhaling black smoke, but it's not a cause for concern. On the contrary, it proves that they are working well and that they perform the function they have installed. "
