The Basque automotive sector invoiced 24,853 million euros in 2025, 1.9% less

The Basque automotive sector invoiced 24,853 million euros last year, 1.9% less than in 2024, due to the "stagnation" of vehicle production in markets where the sector has a strong presence, such as Europe and North America. 

The Automotive Cluster of the Basque Country, ACICAE, has today reported in a statement that these results do not take into account the specific weight of Mercedes Benz Vitoria, which points out that the presence of the sector in markets such as Europe and North America may be due to the "stagnation" of vehicle production.

By sector, however, it is not the only reason, but also highlights tariffs, lower sales of electric vehicles and the presence of Chinese competitors . 

Withregard to employment, at the end of last year 38,200 people were employed in the sector, 1.3% less than the previous year. However, according to the cluster, there are more than 140,000 worldwide. 

In the words of Inés Anitua, CEO of Acicae for 2026, the situation remains delicate and the challenges facing the sector must be added to the consequences of the war in Iran.
