Exports in the Basque Country fell 4.5% in January and imports 6.1%
The trade balance for the first month of 2026 has been positive, amounting to EUR 113.2 million, and the coverage rate measuring the relationship between exports and imports has been 105.5%.
The Basque Autonomous Community exported 2162.3 million eurosin goods last January, which is 4.5% less than in the first month of 2025, while imports reached 2049 million euros , 6.1% less than last year, according to data provided on Monday by the Basque Institute of Statistics, Eustat.
The trade balance for that first month of 2026 was positive, amounting to EUR 113.2 million, and the coverage rate, which measures the ratio between exports and imports, was 105.5%.
Energy exports increased by 169.3 per cent, while non-energy exports fell by 6.8 per cent.
France (€335.7 million), Germany (€317.7 million) and the United Kingdom (€183.7 million) were the three main destinations of Basque exports in January.
Tourism of less than 10 people was the dominant export, with a decrease of 11.3% compared to the same month of 2025.
By territory, exports fell by 18.4 per cent in Álava and 2.7 per cent in Gipuzkoa, while sales abroad increased by 7.3 per cent in Bizkaia .
Most of the purchases made by the Basque Country abroad came from Alemania (297.9 million), France (165.4 million) and China (159 million).
