The Basque Government has declared Basauri (Bizkaia) an "area of tense residential market", which will make it possible to limit the prices of rental housing in the municipality.
The Official Gazette of the Basque Country published on Monday the Order of the Counsellor for Housing and Urban Agenda, Denis Itxaso, at the request of the City Council in November 2025, declaring the municipality of Basauri a "strained zone".
Local authorities argued at the time that the municipality meets the requirements to qualify as a "strained zone" as the average income accounts for more than 30% of the monthly household budget, namely 30.8%.
The Basque Government considers that, on the basis of the documentation provided by the City Council, the justification for the declaration is established.
