The number of Social Security members has increased in the Basque Country and Navarre, but unemployment has also risen
Gipuzkoa is the territory with the largest increase in the number of unemployed, with Bizkaia predominating in the area of new contributors, while Álava has a negative balance in both indicators.
The Basque Country has the second largest increase in unemployment among the Autonomous Communities, behind Murcia.
1,044,686 members Euskadi has joined Social Security in June, 2,006 more than the previous month (+0.19%) and 15,541 more than in June last year (+1.51%), according to data published this Thursday by the Ministry of Social Security and Migration.
More than half of the new contributors are from Bizkaia, 1,097 more members than in May and 8,820 more than a year ago. In Gipuzkoa, membership has also increased, with 932 more workers than in the previous month and 3,104 more than in the previous year. On the contrary, in Álava there are 23 fewer members, although it maintains a positive year-on-year balance, with 3,616 more contributors than a year ago.
Navarra, for its part, has 323,243 Social Security members, which is 885 more people than a month ago (0.27%) and 6,980 more than a year ago (2.21%).
In the State as a whole, Social Security has 0.58 per cent more members than in May, with 128,533 more members, and its year-on-year variation has increased by 2.77 per cent, adding 605,244 more contributors and 22,466,339 members.
132,511 unemployed
On the other hand, the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy and the Basque Government reported on Thursday that 104,212 people were registered in the Basque Country in June in public employment services, 479 more than inMay.
In percentage terms, unemployment has risen by 0.46%, while in the State as a whole it has fallen by an average of 1.24%. Compared with June 2025, unemployment has increased by 821 people, or 0.79%, while the State average has fallen by 4.47%.
Navarra has also distanced itself from the state data, since in the foral community there are 24 more unemployed in June, 0.08% more than the previous month, bringing thetotal number of unemployed to 28,309, which is 81 more unemployed than a year earlier (0.29% more).
Of the 28,309 unemployed, 10,886 are males and 17,423 females, 2,711 are under the age of 25 (1,512 males and 1,119 females) and 25,598 are females (9,374 males and 16,224 females).
