Household spending in the ACV has increased by 7%, mainly due to growth in transport and health
According to EUSTAT, in 2025 families spent an average of EUR 38,800 on housing in the Basque Country, which accounted for more than a third of their expenditure (34.5%).
Basque families spent an average of €38,835 in 2025, an increaseof 6.9% over the previous year , according to the Family Expenditure Survey prepared by the Basque Institute of Statistics Eustat and published this Wednesday.
Housing (including water, electricity, gas and other fuels) accounted for 34.5 per cent of the total in 2025 (13,410 euros per family), forfood and non-alcoholic beverages 15 per cent of expenditure and hotels, cafes and restaurants for 11.5 per cent of expenditure and 10.8 per cent for transport) .
It is precisely transport that has experiencedthe greatest growth: each Basque household spent 4,196 euros on transport in2025 , 29.1% morethan the previous year, and each household allocated 1,521 euros to health care (18.4% more) and 654 euros to education (15.2% more).
Among the groups where spending has increased least are infomation and communications (+1.1%), leisure and entertainment (1.9%) and housing,which, despite being the group with the highest expenditure , has decreased its weight in overall expenditure by 1.3 points.
By territory, the largest expenditure was on families in Gipuzkoa, with 40,917 euros and an increase of 11.3 per cent, followed by Bizkaia with 38,480 euros (+4.8per cent) and Álava with 35,970 euros (+5.7per cent).
With these figures, average expenditure per person increased by 7.3% (16 642 euros), while the Spanish average increased by 14 066 euros (3.2%).
In absolute terms, total consumption expenditure in Basque households reached 37,010 million eurosin 2025, 7.9% more than in 2024.
