Strike day at supermarkets in Hego Euskal Herria called by ELA and LAB

ELA and LAB have called for a day of strike in the food trade sector on Wednesday, pointing out that with this unemployment they want to denounce the attempt being made by employers ASEDAS and large companies in the sector - such as Mercadona, Lidl, Dia or the Uvesco Group - to establish a framework of negotiations at state level.
According to the trade union complaint, the aim of this measure is to empty the content of the territory's own collective agreements and to make working conditions more precarious.
They denounce the "tipping point"
The mobilisation will coincide with a new meeting of the negotiating table at which employers are promoting a State-level agreementwhich, according to the convenors, "jeopardizes the agreements and improvements reached in Euskal Herria".
ELA and LAB believe that this day's meeting will be "decisive" as it may represent "a turning point for the future of collective bargaining." Today, they recall, the working conditions of the food trade in Hego Euskal Herria are regulated by collective agreements of the four territories.
National business agreements
The trade unions have pointed out that ASEDAS, through large companies in the sector such as Mercadona, Lidl, Dia or the Uvesco Group, is promoting a negotiation that seeks to regulate these working conditions through state-level business agreements .
Faced with this situation, ELA and LAB point out that this initiative represents a further attempt to bring labour relations to the level of the State, emptying the content of their own agreements and undermining the bargaining power of workers in the Basque Country.
