ELA criticizes the reform of the dependency law, which promotes the "privatization and precariousness of care"
According to the union, institutions should exercise their powers to promote a public, universal and free care system.
ELAhas criticized the reform of the Dependency andDisability Act passed by the Congress of Deputies, which states that it will maintain a model based on the privatization and precariousnessof care, and has denounced that the law does not call into question the existing system or meet existing needs.
The trade union organization stresses that the powers of dependency are in the hands of the Autonomous Communities and therefore calls on the institutions of the Basque Country and Navarre to promote their own system of care, public, free and quality.
"Precarious workers"
In this regard, ELA denounces that the reform continues to advocate a model of care that encourages privatization and the recruitment of precarious workers, the consequences of which, according to the union, are particularly affected by women and migrants, many of them in a non-regularized employment situation.
The organization also warns that the increase in state funding does not guarantee the coverage of all existing needs, namely that in Hego Euskal Herria there are 35,000 domestic workers, and that the majority of the staff of the nursing home is in the hands of private management.
For all these reasons, ELA has narrowly missed the opportunity to move towards a public surveillance system, although the union insists that it will continue to organize workers in Hego Euskal Herria.
