Basque GDP rose 2.1% in the second quarter since last year and 0.5% since the first quarter
According to the progress of the quarterly economic accounts prepared by EUSTAT, employment in the ACV increased 1.3% in the second quarter of the year compared to the second quarter of 2025 and 0.4% compared to the first quarter of 2026.
The Basque economy has maintained its growth line with a 2.1% increase in gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2026, based on "overall positive sectoral developments".
This is reflected in the progress of the quarterly accounts published today by the Basque Institute of Statistics, Eustat, which shows that the Basque economy has grown 2.1% since the second quarter of last year and 0.5% since the previous quarter.
Employment has also increased, with year-on-year growth of 1.3 per cent in the second quarter and 0.4 per cent over the first three months of 2026, resulting in the creation of some 13,000 jobs in the last year.
According to Eustat, these figures are based on a "general positive sectoral evolution".
In addition to this advance of accounts, Eustat will publish on September 18 all details of the economic accounts for the second quarter of 2026.

The Vice-President and Counsellorfor Economy, Labour and Employment of the Basque Government, Mikel Torres, has assessed the progress of the accounts and stressed that the 2.1% increase isa tenth higher than the gold A of the Basque Government in June.
He stressed that the Basque economy is developing "firmly and resiliently" in an international context marked by geopolitical uncertainty and weak growth in the major European economies.
"The Basque Country has been in eight consecutive quarters with year-on-year growth of more than 2%," said the vicelehendakari, who explained that employment growth of 1.3% is also a tenth higher than the Basque Government's forecast.
These figures, Torres said, confirm the 1.9% growth forecast for the whole of 2026.
