Unemployment rose in July in the Basque Country and Navarre, with 1,378 and 534 more unemployed, respectively
The Basque Country had 105,590 job-seekers in July, 1,378 more unemployed than in June, while the number of unemployed in Navarre rose by 534, to 28,843, according to data published by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy.
Unemployment rose in July in both the ACV and Navarre, while in the Basque Autonomous Community the number of people registered in Lanbide increased by 1.32% over the previous month and in the Foral Community by 1.89%.
The year-on-year comparison also shows a slight increase in unemployment in the Basque Autonomous Community, with 599 more unemployed in July 2026 than in the same month of the previous year, an increase of 0.57%.
Unemployment is rising in the three Basque territories
Unemployment rose in July in the three territories of the Basque Autonomous Community, with Bizkaia recording the largest increase in absolute terms, with 832 more unemployed (1.41% growth), rising to 59,786.
In Álava, the number of unemployed increased by 280 persons (1.61 per cent) to 17,684 job-seekers, while in Gipuzkoa the increase was 266 persons, 0.95 per cent more than in June, while in Lanbide there were 28,120 registered.
Navarra has 534 more unemployed in July
Navarra ended July with 28,843 unemployed, after 534 new job seekers in that month, according to data from the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy. Compared to July 2025, there were 303 more unemployed, 1.06% more.
By sex, of the total number of unemployed in Navarre, 17,735 are women and 11,108 men, and 2,728 are under the age of 25 and 26,115 are over that age.
By sector, Services concentrates most of the unemployment in Navarre, with 19,258 people out of work, followed by the previous unemployed (3,860), Industry (3,553), Construction (1,089) and Agriculture (1,083).
In terms of recruitment, 30,740 contracts were concluded in Navarre in July, 1,694 fewer than in June, a decrease of 5.22 per cent, while 1,884 more contracts were signed than in July 2025, an increase of 6.53 per cent.
Of the total number of contracts entered into in the Foral Community, 7,729 were of foreign origin.
Unemployment rose in Spain in July, but fell in the last year
In Spain as a whole, unemployment rose by 19,517 people in July compared with the previous month (0.85%), to 2,311,499.
The year-on-year trend, however, shows a decrease in unemployment, with 93,107 fewer unemployed than in July 2025, or 3.87 per cent less.
