A court in Vitoria-Gasteiz insists that taxis have to make guards "out of general interest"
The judge has dismissed the appeal filed by 65 taxi drivers against the new municipal decree. La City Council has clarified that the decree is currently suspended but is already working on its entry into force.
A court in Vitoria-Gasteiz has rejected the precautionary measure requested by a group of taxi drivers to suspend the obligation to carry out guards, as well as the consequences that failure to comply with this measure may have because, as laid down in the new municipal decree, the "general interest" of citizens "prevails" .
The Municipal Department of Public Information has notified the resolution of the appeal filed by 65 taxi drivers against the decree of the guards.
The City Council has stated that the labour and economic damage alleged by taxi drivers "cannot, at this time, prevail over the general interest".
In addition, the judgment expressly states that this general interest lies in ensuring the mobility of citizens and taxi service , "especially at times of greatest demand".

The department headed by Councilwoman jeltzale Beatriz Artolazabal has describedthe court decision as "positive" because "at this precautionary stage, it guarantees the need to ensure adequate taxi service when citizens most need it".
Finally, the City Council has made it clear , through administrative channels, that the decree is "suspended" and has announced that it is working to restore its effectiveness. "We have the necessary reports and we will shortly release it in the BOTHA," municipal sources have indicated.
