Four people arrested for 36 robberies in supermarkets in six provinces
The Civil Guard of the Bizkaia Commandhas arrested four people and conducted a more modest investigation in Bizkaia and the Castelló de la Plana for 36 theft offences in well-known supermarket chains in Burgos, Cantabria, Gipuzkoa, Navarra, Álava and Bizkaia.
The research shows that the group worked under a common pattern: only one woman entered the supermarkets with a single employee, filled a wheelbarrow with high-value products, mostly perishable, and the rest waited near the exit. Once the cart was full, the accomplices distracted the worker to attract him to the entrance.
The crimes occurred between July 2024 and April 2025. Several supermarket chains, both Basque and national and international, have stepped up security measures against the alarm generated by this group.
On 5 June, the Civil Guard searched a house in Bilbao where the stolen products were stored, which led to the arrest of four people and the investigation of another in Bilbao and Castelló de la Plana, all of whom have a history of crimes against property. The investigation is conducted by Examining Court No. 1 in Bilbao.
