The keys to the bill to protect consumers from misleading advertising
Before the rule is adopted, society will be able to propose changes and finally it will be voted on in the Congress of Deputies. The law will prohibit greenwashing in advertisements, monitor the increase in ticket sales and encourage the repair of products before they are replaced.
The preliminary draft will now be socialized in society, then returned to the Council of Ministers, and finally taken to Congress for final approval. Here are the keys.
Veto on "contagious" advertising
The advertising of energy products consisting of fossil derivatives (except gas) that do not contain renewable components may not be carried out except by companies in the coal or oil sector.
It is prohibited to announce short flights within the Iberian Peninsula (if there is a less polluting option of less than two and a half hours).
It's forbidden to advertise cars driven exclusively by fossil fuels .
Right to repair: end of planned obsolescence
The consumer may extend the product guarantee for a further year if he or she repairs it, and a system of co-financing for repairs will be created whereby producers must bear part of the cost (up to 20%) within four years of the end of the legal guarantee.
A list of reliable repairers will be made available so that they can request budgets and request repairs. They will require that spare parts be available until ten years after they have ceased to be manufactured. And they will include guidance information on repair prices on producers' websites.
The concealment of software updates that adversely affect the performance of the product shall be prohibited, and updates that only improve their functionality features may not be sold as necessary.
