A man has been arrested in Ferrol (A Coruña) for sexually assaulting an 18-year-old girl, while four men surrounded the victim.
The attack took place in the stands of the Plaza de España in Ferrol. The events took place on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday in the city centre. The young man was surrounded by four men and was the victim of a sexual assault.
As reported today by the government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, the police are investigating the case and do not rule out further arrests "among those around the victim".
Blanco recalled that rape is a "criminal offence," so he will have "a full police and judicial response to punish the culprit."
He has stressed that "all lines of investigation are open" and that the "background" of the alleged assailant, who is "likely" to know the victim, is also being analysed.
The representative added that "the victim was examined by the forensic doctor and health personnel" and that he is physically "fine".
The Galician Government today condemned the'brutal attack' , while expressing its' support and solidarity 'with the victim and his family.
Ferrol City Council has also strongly condemned the attack and Mayor José Manuel Rey Varela has expressed his "firm commitment to the protection of citizens."
Today there was an urgent meeting of the Board of Spokespersons at which the political opposition groups also condemned the attack and expressed concern.
