A fishing boat has been identified in San Sebastian for throwing illegal discards into the water
The Civil Guard has accused a ship in Laredo of pouring 700 kilos of boga into the waters of Mompás, following a complaint by the environmental group Eguzki.
The Civil Guard has identified a fishing vessel based in Laredo, Cantabria, in front of the tip of Mompás, in Donostia-San Sebastián, as allegedly responsible for the illegal dumping of 500-700 kilograms of boga. The proceedings have been referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office for the Environment following a complaint filed by the environmental group Eguzki.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on 14 August, when the vessel allegedly dumped its cargo without respecting Spanish and European regulations on the landing and conservation of fishing resources, an incident which, according to the environmental group, violates EU Regulation 1380/2013 and other autonomous and national regulations.
Eguzki further warns that mass boga removal has no exceptions provided for by law and could constitute a crime against natural resources and fauna, and therefore requests that the relevant criminal penalties be investigated and applied.
