The Basque Government will celebrate Diaspora Day with a tribute to the Punta Basket community in Markina-Xemein
The Argentine diaspora artist Mikele Irazusta will create a mural in Markina-Xemein on Monday, within a day that will bring together traditional dances, cultural stands and the participation of local actors and the dance group of Saint-Pierre and Mikelune.
For the eighth time today the Basque Government will celebratethe DiasporaDay Euskal , inMarkina-Xemein,with the tip basket community as its centerpiece.
The director of the Basque Community abroad, Ziortza Olano, and the councillor of Euskera and Culture of Markina-Xemein, Mari Eli Ituarte Zarragoikoetxea, have announced that during the day a tribute will be paid to the community of pelotaris, "protagonists of a discipline that has brought the name of Euskadi to the frontons of the world."
Ituarte has also stressed that Markina-Xemein is "the perfect setting" to host this event. "Choosing our country and honoring this collective is an honor, because if Markina-Xemein is known in the world for anything it is for the tip of the basket, the pelotaris have reached every corner of the world geography," he said.
The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. on the small fronton outside the Markina fronton.
The institutional event, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., will be chaired by lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, and the Secretary-General for External Action and Global Euskadi, Ander Caballero.
