The Basque Government has launched a participatory process for citizens to choose the name of the railway service in the suburbs of the Basque Country.
Those wishing to participate in the vote must be registered on the Irekia website, where they will find the three voting options: Besaide, Lottu and Lurbil, three names suggesting proximity to the territory.
On 1 January, the Spanish Government transferred to the Basque Government responsibility for rail services in the suburbs, a service which Renfe continues to provide for the time being.
In addition to the new service in Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Álava, the Department of Sustainable Mobility is working to improve the service for the installation of a railway shuttle in the Karrantza Valley.
The Department of Sustainable Mobility wants these improvements to be accompanied by a new and differentiated brand, and therefore invites citizens to participate in the decision on the future name of the suburban service.
