This is the first time the Ibis eremite bird has been spotted in Navarre
The bird specimen called "Giselbert 916" is the first of its kind in the region and is part of a documented migration route through the Eremite Project.
For the first time in history, a specimen of the Ibis eremite bird has been recorded in Navarre, specifically in the town of Berbintzana, reported by the Gorosti Societyof Natural Sciences.
The specimen, called 'Giselbert 916', began migrating from Germany on October 11, 2025. During the migration it has crossed the Alps, passed through Lyon and made a short stop in Navarre before heading for Burgos.
The presence of the species is a milestone in Navarre. With this observation, a total of 363 different species of birds have been recorded in the community.
Thanksto the Eremite Project, the Ibis eremite species has experienced a remarkable recovery since its disappearance from the Iberian peninsula.
This survey is also a clear indication of the project's achievements in restoring biodiversity on the Berber peninsula.
