Ostiral honetan, Pasaiako Albaola ontziolak une historikoa biziko du, duela hamarkada bat baino gehiago berreraikitzen hasi ziren XVI. mendeko San Juan baleontzi ospetsuaren erreplikaren kroskoa uretaratuko baitute.
Donostia 2016 Europako Kultur Hiriburutzaren proiektu enblematikoenetako batek zorroztasunez eta pazientziaz berreskuratu ditu duela bost mende erabilitako erriberako arotzeria teknikak. Ontziko pieza bakoitza eskuz egin dute, euskal ontzigileei ospea eman zieten jatorrizko metodoei jarraituz.
Kroskoak, erabat amaituta, inflexio-puntu bat markatzen du 1978an Red Bayn (Kanada) aurkitutako jatorrizko pezioaren azterketetan oinarritutako berreraikuntza zientifikoaren prozesuan. Hemendik aurrera, fase berri bati ekingo zaio, eta bertan, ontziak mastak, kandelak, aingurak eta aparailuak izango ditu, guztiak ere garaiko materialekin eginak.

Zein da San Juan baleontziaren etorkizuna?
◆ Fase berria: kroskoa uretaratu ondoren, itsasontziaren ekipamendua hasiko da.
◆ Artisau-lana: mastak, kandelak, aingurak eta aparailuak XVI. mendeko teknikekin muntatuko dira.
◆ Datu teknikoak: 4 km-ko sokak eta 600 m²-ko bi kandela sorta beharko dira.
◆ Museo-ontzia: San Juan ontziaren azken fasean bisitatzeko moduko gunea izango da.
◆ Eskola bizia: proiektuak erriberako aroztegiaren ofizioa bizirik mantentzen du, artisau berriak trebatuz.
◆ 2027ko horizontea: aurreikusita dago naoak Atlantikoa zeharkatzea Kanadarako bidean, XVI. mendeko euskal balea-ontzien bidaiei erantzunez.
◆ Eskifaia historikoa: 40 bat lagunek garaiko arropa eta baldintzekin nabigatuko dute, erosotasun modernorik gabe.
