The Intertuna Tres, based in Bermeo, has had an attempt to board about 900 kilometres off the coast of Somalia, with no injuries or material damage.
The tuna boat Intertuna Tres of the Bermean shipowner Albacora has managed to fire at a pirate attack while fishing in the Indian Ocean, which has been attempted about 500 miles offthe coast of Somalia .
According to industry sources, a fast boat has approached the stern in order to reach the fishing vessel. The crew has activated the security protocol and the onboard guards have fired several warning shots, so the attackers have withdrawn without causing damage.
The Basque tuna fleet has been operating in the Indian Ocean for years. Although it has remained stable in recent years, there have again been incidents of piracy, coinciding with the improvement of monsoon and sea conditions.
