San Sebastian can win the European Award for the Most Innovative City today
The 2026 European InnovationCapital Awards will be presented in the Italian city of Turin from 11:30 a.m. and San Sebastián is among the finalists in the category of emerging innovative cities, along with Nicosia (Cyprus) and Aalborg (Denmark).
The Council of Innovation of Europe rewards cities at the forefront of urban innovation, cities that have been at the forefront of creating sustainable, inclusive and resilient urban centres.
The competition is divided into two categories: European Capital of Innovation and European City of Innovation. San Sebastian will compete in this second category.
When he was appointed a finalist, the jury stressed that San Sebastian has created a dynamic and unified ecosystem, "integrating institutions, businesses, and communities." While saying that "sustainable construction and digital strategies" have made the city popular, he praised the work done to produce and maintain talent .
