Judge sends to prison the 84-year-old man who stabbed a woman in Pamplona
The attack took place on Friday in the Rochapea neighbourhood and the man was intercepted by an off-duty police officer, who seriously injured the woman.
The head of Examining Court No. 5 in Pamplona has sent to prison the man who last Friday stabbed a woman in the abdomen and seriously injured her, who is in the ICU as a result of the assault and is charged with attempted murder.
According to the order issued by the judge, the man had made an appointment with the woman in the Rochapea district of Pamplona, on the street, and at one point "struck her several times and, with the intention of killing her, stabbed her with a knife she was carrying".
Hewitnessed the attack by an off-duty Foral Police and stopped the attacker and disarmed him, after which two National Police officers who were walking around came to his aid.
He suffered abdominal trauma and severe abdominal injuries, injuries to the liver and spleen and "severe internal hemorrhage". He had to undergo emergency abdominal surgery and was admitted to the ICU.
The magistrate has sent the accused to prison toavoid the risk of escape, while taking measuresto protect the victim.
The judge has also refused to allow the accused to be restricted in their cognitive and voluntary faculties because they are in "unspecified mental health treatment".
The car doesn't explain the reasons the defendant could have for the attack, or his relationship with the woman.
