Osakidetza will finish revaccination today for the 30 people who received the expired dose of hexavalent
In addition, the Basque Health Service will this week call the 78 people who are believed to have received expired tetrabalent and triple viral vaccines.
The Basque Government announced last week that 103 people had received theexpired dose of the hexavalent vaccine and that they would have tobe re-vaccinated. But then it reduced the number to 30 and these are those who will be re-vaccinated from Friday until today. The Department of Health has reported that the problem is concentrated mainly in the health centres in Iztieta (Errenteria) and Ondarreta (San Sebastián).
However, the investigation of this first incident revealed another circumstance, namely that it was possible that 49 people had been inoculated with expired doses of tetrabalentand 29 others with triple viral viral, so Osakidetza will be calling these 78 people who would have received this vaccine this week, if not to confirm the suspicion, to find out if it is an error of identification.
The Basque Government's Health Adviser, Alberto Martínez, explained over the weekend that since the Department's knowledge of the situation on 15 January, "a thorough analysis of what has happened" has been carried out and continues to be carried out. To this end, a committee has been set up to "know what has happened in each case" and, if deemed necessary, "propose corrective measures in the protocols".
The counselor reiterates that, in any case, all vaccines administered by 2025 (except flu and covid), about 175,000 of 20 types of vaccines, will be reviewed. Osakidetza clarifies that it will take action if "any incidents" are detected.
Martinez said the committee of inquiry is expected to have a resolution this month on what happened and will make its recommendations known. Among the measures that could be taken would be that of double check, so that "control does not depend on one person."
