They're investigating an alleged case of illegal trafficking in human beings in San Sebastian
A van with several people of Asian origin was intercepted yesterday morning by the San Sebastian Municipal Police.
The Ertzaintza and the Donostia Municipal Police are investigating an alleged case of illegal trafficking in persons.
According to the Basque Government's Department of Security in a note, at around 02:40 yesterday morning, a French-registered van was intercepted in the opposite direction in the Amara neighbourhood by agents of the Municipal Police. When they tried to stop it, the driver fled and, after crossing several streets, was hit on the GI-20 road in the Aiete neighbourhood.
The note states that several people of Asian origin were travelling inside the channel, some of whom had attempted to flee. They were located by the Ertzaintza outside the city. Ds were taken to a police station.
A minor was also intercepted inside the van, which was handed over to a reception centre in San Sebastian by the Municipal Social Emergency Service (SMUS).
According to the first investigations, these people have made several payments to reach the Spanish State, for which they have had to meet a number of requirements, such as not carrying the documentation among their belongings or carrying a mobile phone that has not been used before, without the contact stored in the agenda.
