Eleven people will sit on the bench of the defendants from this Monday at the Bizkaia Court in the trial for the homophobic assault on a young man in Basauri (Bizkaia) in June 2021, who was knocked unconscious after being brutally beaten amid derogatory comments about his sexual orientation.
The First Section of the Provincial High Court of Bizkaia will hold a four-day trial on these facts, and the accused are expected to testify on the 11th.
The events that are being tried took place in the early morning of 6 June 2021 in Bizkotxalde Park. A group of young men attacked the then 23-year-old Ekain Perrino.
Social attackers reported that the attackers did not know the victim. They punched him and kicked him, and they kept hitting him on the floor even when he passed out, while they said, "This happens to you because you're a dirty faggot. " and the like.
The young man was unconscious , bleeding through his mouth and nose, and had to be hospitalized.
More than five years later, eleven people will be tried.
The case provoked messages of solidarity notonly at the social level, but also between institutions and institutions. All the groups in the Basque Parliament except Vox approved the declaration of solidarity, the Basauri City Council, the Ombudsman, the Spanish Government... cited the case to support the victim and denounce hate speech.
