114,400 people of Basque origin live abroad, 5.5% more than a year ago
Most of them live in America, specifically in Argentina, according to the Census of Spanish Residents Abroad (PERE) published annually by the INE.
The number of people of Basque origin residing abroad has increased by 5.5% in 2025, to 114,400 on 1 January 2026, according to data released this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
According to the PERE Census of Spanish Residents Abroad published annually by the INE, by 2025 there were 108,406 people of Basque origin living abroad, compared to 114,400 in 2026, an increaseof 5,994.
Most of them live in American countries (61,887), with Argentina being the main destination, with 17,122 people of Basque origin. In Europe there are 47,667, with France as the main destination (20,569), Asia 2,124, Africa 1,372 and Oceania 1,350.
