The man who lived in the house has admitted that the plants belonged to him, and has therefore been arrested for a public health offence.
A 51-year-old man has been arrested by the Ertzaintza in Lemoa (Bizkaia) on charges of possessing 255 marijuana plants one meter long.
At around 10 a.m. last Tuesday, a fire broke out in a house in the Azurreka neighbourhood of Lemoa, which led to the presence of several officers and firefighters, who, in the absence of the neighbour, had to cause damage to the front door in order to quell the fire.
After the fire had been extinguished, the police patrol inspected the interior of the house and found that several rooms in the house contained one meter of marijuana plants.
When the man who lived in the house came, he admitted that the plants were his own, and was arrested for a public health offence.
Subsequently, with judicial authorization, the Ertzaintza searched the house and counted 255 marijuana plants divided into four rooms.
