The Ertzaintza investigates a sexual assault attempt that occurred last Friday afternoon on the campus of Mondragon Unibertsitatea in Oñati (Gipuzkoa). On Monday, a rally was held to denounce the attempted aggression, which was attended by, among others, the Counsellor for Science, Universities and Innovation, Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias.
The victim, as confirmed by the Basque Government's Department of Security, filed a complaintfor these incidents.
During the rally, the Chief Executive stressed that "in the face of any form of violence and, of course, sexual violence, a strong responseis essential ".
Pérez Iglesias has expressed his support for the victim of this sexual assault attempt in the parking lot of the campus. He has said that such acts constitute "an unacceptable violation of fundamental rights and a direct attack on the freedom, dignity and physical integrity of those who suffer them" and are "incompatible with the values that academic institutions and our society in general must regulate."
"Gender-based violence in all its manifestations is a scourge to which institutions and all citizens must commit themselves. In this task, the University has a specific responsibility for its contribution to the equal rights, opportunities and recognition of men and women in its field. "
