A Jesuit from Pamplona is being investigated for allegedly sexually abusing a young man
He was arrested yesterday by the Foral Police and taken to court this Saturday. The judge has ordered his provisional release.
A Jesuit is being investigated in Pamplona for alleged sexual abuse "against a young adult."
The Foral Police have confirmed to the Orain that the victim is an 18-year-old whose reported crime occurred during a series of spiritual exercises and are working to clarify what happened and whether there are any more victims.
The Society of Jesus has issued a note stating that "Both the Company and the Jesuit accused are cooperating with the police authorities responsible for the investigation and will be at their disposal throughout the process", adding that, under its internal protocol, it has taken measures in relation to the Jesuit complained of, such as the prohibition of contacting the alleged victim, his family or his immediate surroundings "in any way", the prohibition of contact with minors or adults in a vulnerable situation, and the prohibition of posting any kind of news or messages on social networks.
The organization adds that it will not make an assessment of the news "out of respect for the alleged victim and the principle of the presumption of innocence of the accused", but wishes to make it clear that the Society of Jesus has a "clear" commitment to the creation of "safe environments" and stresses in the note that they take measures to "prevent, prepare, raise awareness and detect any abuse or inappropriate conduct that may occur in our works".
They have also stressed their commitment to "transparency and justice" and in this regard have recalled that they have a\ u00A0 reporting channel to communicate any such information.
