Kukai's director's testimony on alleged sexual assaults shakes Errenteria's municipal policy
The PSE has called for an extraordinary commission to study the management of the municipal government, while the PP has called for the resignation of Mayor Aizpea Otaegi.
Testimonies of alleged sexual assaults attributed to Kukai's director, Jon Maya, have led to intense political debate in Errenteria. The local PSE has called for the urgent convening of an extraordinary commission to study the management of the municipal government in this case and around the bertso eskola.
The Group of the European People's Party(Christian Democrats) and European Democrats filed an objection calling for the resignation of Mayor Aizpea Otaegi on the grounds that the government team was aware of the serious events and had not had sufficient transparency.
During the plenary session, Otaegi explained that last Friday they transferred all the information available to the municipal groups and detailed how the case is dealt with, noting that the process remains open and that, among other things, work is under way with the Equality Department of the Government of Gipuzkoa.
The origin of the case dates back to 2024, when several women provided her with testimony about alleged sexual assaults attributed to the director of Kukai, at whose request the feminist movement encouraged an internal confidential process.
There was no public complaint, and the work began privatelyfor Kukai officials to initiate a transformative and restorative process.
In recent months, rumors about this issue have spread in Errenteria, where last month a spokesperson for the Kukai steering committee released the process through an open letter in which the feminist movement strongly criticized the breakdown of the agreed confidentiality.
Kukai, with his official residence in Errenteria, has received public subsidies from the City Council in recent years.
Suspension of the activity of the Xenpelar School of Verses
The situation is taking place in a context marked by another case known this week in Errenteria, the Bertsozale Association, the Orereta Feminist Movement and the Oiartzun Feminist Assembly publicly denounced the attacks attributed to a teacher at the Xenpelar Bertso Eskola.
They explained that the teacher "has taken advantage of his attitude and referentiality to develop power relations and systematically attackthem. "The first complaint was received in 2018 and, although action had been taken since then, the attacks would continue.
The Errenteria City Council further reported that at least one member of the management of the bertso eskola had supported the aggressor. Given the "gravity" of the situation and the municipal service, the City Council decided to suspend the centre's activity.
