With the start of the beach season, it is reported that the access ramp to the beach of Barinatxe in Sopelana will be closed due to the risk of a detachment on the hillside. The Sopelana City Council reports that pedestrian access to the beach (also known as La Salvaje) can only be made from the stairs.
According to the latest technical report, the wing continues to record movements due to winter rains, and the document also indicates that the stabilization carried out subsidiarily by the City of Sopelana in 2024 remains correct and that part of the slide in January of this year has been removed by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
Acting Mayor Unai del Burgo has explained that the City Council will maintain the security protocol toavoid stripes and has asked citizens to respect the existing fence in the area.
As long as the ramp remains closed, the City Council itself will be responsible for clearing access, and the local police and the Works Brigade will monitor the situation on a daily basis.
The City Council has determined that emergency vehicles and beach cleaning services will be able to use the ramp.
