The woman worked as a caretaker in nursing homes and homes, where she allegedly stole jewellery. The Ertzaintza has recovered numerous pieces during a search in Azpeitia.
A 48-year-old woman has been arrested in Azpeitia on chargesof stealing jewellery and watches from private homes and nursing homes in Gipuzkoa, in addition to two other persons, a 61-year-old man and a 26-year-old man, for their alleged connection to the incident.
The investigation began in late 2025 after several people reported the disappearance of jewellery in homes and residential centres. Investigations by the Ertzaintza revealed that the guard was using his work to take various pieces (mainly gold) and watches.
According to the investigation, the jewels were handed over to their partner and their son, who sold them at gold shops and jewellery stores, and all three allegedly made profits of more than 11,000 euros through these transactions.
On Thursday morning, agents of the Urola-Kosta Police, with the support of the Canina Unit, searched the suspect's home in Azpeitia. During the operation, they seized various jewels and documents relating the investigators to the robberies.
The woman was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of aggravated theft, abuse of trust, reception and money-laundering committed in a criminal group, while the other two have been investigated for the same acts.
The arrested person was transferred to police stations and will be brought before the court after the relevant proceedings have been completed.
