Five men arrested in Abanto and Zierbena for assaulting another at the Gallarta festivities

The Ertzaintza has arrested five men in Abanto-Zierbena (Bizkaia), threeof them minors, for assaultinganother man this weekend during the festivities in the Gallarta neighbourhood, who had to be operated on for a jaw fracture in emergencies, according to the Basque Department of Security.

At about 5:00 a.m. last Saturday, the Ertzaintza was alerted that a young man had been attacked in the Gallarta Neighbourhood Holiday District. Citizen Care Patrols from the Muskiz Police Station, who were monitoring the area, immediately went to the scene and tracked down the victim.

The 24-year-old assailant was unable to explain what had happened to the officers, who were seriously injured in the jaw and missing several teeth, and had to be taken to a hospital, where a 19-year-old male , who was one of the alleged aggressors, could be located in the vicinity on the basis of information provided by witnesses and was arrested on charges of wounding.

Initial inquiries after the incident made it possible to identify in the vicinity several other persons allegedly involved in the attack and, following the relevant inquiries, at around 11 a.m. on Saturday, another 18-year-old man was arrested on charges of the same offence.

As a result of the investigation, two 16-year-old men and one 17-year-old men were arrested on Sunday on charges of serious bodily harm for their alleged involvement in the attack.

The three minors have been released and are awaiting summons by the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, while the other two detainees were transferred to police stations to carry out the necessary procedures and will be brought before the court at the end of the proceedings.
