Two young men have been arrested and an ertzaina injured in clashes during the Etxebarri festivities

An ertzaina was taken to hospital last night after being hit in the head by a glass bottle. According to the Department of Safety and Security in a statement, there were istilos this morning in Etxebarri (Bizkaia), during the San Antonio festivities in the Kukullaga district, and two young men were arrested on charges of an attack on authority.

The altercation began around 4:00 a.m. and the situation did not recover until 6:00 a.m., when a young man was arrested by the local police on charges of an attack on authority and the breakdown occurred, after the local police requested assistancefrom the Ertzaintza in connection with the attempted assault.

Several Ertzaintza patrols have come to the scene and drawn up a police line to be able to transfer the detained young man, at one point the brother of the accused has attacked the local police officers, insulting them and hitting the police car, one of whom has left the vehicle and has been surrounded by young people in an aggressive manner, which has led to the intervention of Ertzaintza patrols.

According to the note, the brother of the arrested young man has pushed and assaultedone of the officers in the face, who has been arrested on charges of an attack on authority. 

Next, about 100 people who were in the festive area have startedthrowing glass bottles   , one of which has hit one of the officers, who has been injured and taken to hospital.  

After the police proceedings, the two young men have beenreleased pending summons by the judge.

Esan condemned the attack.

Esan has issued a statement condemning "outright" the attack on Etxebarri. The union considers that "what happened is not a simple insolence, throwing bottles at the Ertzaintza is an attack on those who ensure the safety of all citizens."

According to the union, "such behaviour is unacceptable, endangers the physical integrity of agents and seriously endangers the rest of the population. " 

Esan has shown his support and solidarity with the injured ertzaina and has called for a "public, clear and unqualified" condemnation of what happened  to all institutions, political groups and social partners. He has stressed that "attacks on ertzainas have no place in a democratic society.

Meeting, Tuesday

On the other hand, the Etxebarri City Councilhas reported that it will issue a note of condemnation tomorrow and convene a rally on Tuesday. The session will aim to "condemn all forms of violence", since, in addition to what happened last night, it will be used to denounce the sexual assault that took place last weekend.
