The "Mothers of Bernedo" group has lamented the politicization of what happened: "We have not denounced an ideology, we have denounced a series of facts." Moreover, they have described many of them as "Basques, feminists and abertzales." They have therefore found it "painful" to want to identify with some ideological space.
According to these mothers, who have been silent for the past 10 months to "protect" their daughters, it has been "hard" to hear "opinions from those who have not known what has happened" and "partial accounts."
Now, however, they think they cannot remain silent, lest the "voices of their daughters" remain hidden.
On the other hand, mothers regret that all this "might have been different." "It was enough to talk to us, to listen to our daughters, to try to understand what had happened, and to act accordingly."
