The family of young Ander S. T., who died after being arrested by the local police in Santurtzi, will go to court. According to EITB, relatives believe that death "could have been avoided" and linkit to what happened during his arrest.
According to the death certificate issued by Cruces Hospital, the young man died as a result of a heat stroke, although the family believe that he would not have died had the circumstances surroundinghis arrest not occurred, alleging that he was detained under the sun for more than an hour on a day when temperatures exceeded 40 degrees.
Events
According to the Santurtzi City Council, the events took place on 22 June, when Ander S. T. rang the bell of the Municipal Police Station and immediately fled to the race, shortly afterwards taking the cane from an elderly person on Jose Migel Barandiaran Street.
The elderly man fell to the ground, at which point Santurtzi Local Police officers began a foot chase to stop the 29-year-old who, according to the City Council, was suffering from psychological problems.
The chase ended on Cervantes Street, about 200 metres from the local police station, where Ander was reduced by three officers using an electric shock device (taser).
Subsequently, the local police requested an ambulance to transfer thedetainee to Cruces Hospital, where Ander S. T. died two days later.
