The Llodio City Council has reported thathigh levels of legionella have been detected in some municipal facilities and that, "in strict application of health safety protocols and out of public health responsibility", it has temporarily closed all elements requiring the use of water and water in these facilities as a preventive measure and "to ensure public safety".
Theincident affects the fronton of Areta, the cultural centre of Areta, the sports facilities of the Gardeaand the football field of Altzarrate, facilities which, according to the City Council, can continue to be used normally as long as water is not used.
At the same time, the City Council has indicated that all necessary technical treatments will be carried out to eliminate the presence of the legionella and restore all safety conditions established by the health authorities.
They have clarified that the measure is "absolutely preventive" because no cases have been detected relatedto legionella; "the aim is to restore the facilities to normal as soon as possible, with full health guarantees for all citizens and without any risk."
In addition, the City Council has stressed that there is no problem in municipal swimming poolsand that it is "absolutely safe" to bathe and use water in them and has recalled that the quality of the water in swimming pools is constantly monitored in accordance with the regulations in force.
The mayor of Llodio, Ainize Gastaka, wanted to send a "message of tranquillity" to the public, stressing that the city "has acted immediately, following the protocols strictly and prioritizing prevention." She pointed out that "the measures taken have been taken with caution and to ensure the safety of the public."
The City Council will report on the development of the situation and will activate all water points affected by the incident once the treatments have been completed and the control analytics confirm the correct results.
