Two men accused of murdering Erandiotarra Eneritz Argintxona have been sentenced to 48 years in Panama
They will have to serve 30 years for feminicide and 18 more for aggravated theft. The Argintxona was crossing Central America in the summer of 2024 and was killed in July while in the archipelago of Bocas del Toro. The investigation has clarified that the now convicted women beat the girl "with the intention of taking her belongings" and caused her death.
A court in Panama has sentenced two men to 48 years 'imprisonment for the murder and theft of30-year-old Biscayan tourist Eneritz Argintxona Fraile in the Bocas del Toro archipelago in the Caribbean in July 2024.
After being found guilty by the justice system at the end ofJune, they have read the sentence on Monday and have each been sentenced to 30 years for the crime offeminicide and 18 years for aggravated theft Ministerio Público (MP, Prosecutor's Office) in a press release.
During the trial, the Regional Prosecutor's Office of Bocas del Toro has been able to establish the criminal responsibility of the two defendants in the oral proceedings for the events of 23 July 2024 in the townof Isla Carenero. In particular, the Public Prosecutor's Office has been able to prove that one of the detainees struck the young man violently with the handle of a machete and that the other stole his mobile phone and camera.
"They have provided more than 50 evidence, testimony that made it possible to establish the criminal responsibility of both defendants, and between expert and documentary evidence," and, with all of them, the court has unanimously ruled.
Argintxona Fraile, originally from Erandio, was last seen on 23 July 2024 on the island of Carenero, in the archipelago of Bocas del Toro. Two days later, a body was found on a beach and a few days later it was found that the deceased was a Biscayan woman.
The autopsy revealed that the woman had died from a blow to the head, so the possibility of the accident was ruled out from the outset.
