Discontent reigns in Roncal the day after the death of three residents drowned in the Ezka River

Grief reigns today in and around Roncal, theday after the terrible tragedy on Wednesday afternoon in the Ezka River, where three villagers, a mother and two of her underage children, drowned in a river bathing area.

The Roncal City Council expressed its regret in a statement issued yesterday and called for three days of mourning , during which the flags will fly at half mast and there will be no official events these days. The City Council has also expressed its solidarity with the families and friends of the deceased and made municipal resources available to them.

In the same vein, the President of Navarre, María Chivite, expressed her displeasure in a message published in X and conveyed her condolences "to the family and friends, as well as to all the citizens of Roncal." "The Government of Navarre makes available all the resources that may be necessary in this situation," she said last night.

As reported by the Civil Guard on Wednesday, the incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. in a bathing area next to a dam. 

The Nasbaskoz Fire Department, a medicalized helicopter, a health team, two Basic Life Support ambulances and one Advanced Life Support ambulance, as well as Foral Police and Civil Guard personnel, were mobilized to the scene of the incident, but the emergency services were unable to do anything to save the life of the woman and the two children.

The Civil Guard has taken over the investigationto determine what happened.

The three victims, of Maghreb birth, were neighbours of the Roncal .
