Work has begun to demolish the old Pasaia viaduct and the old Mole station
Two days after the inauguration of the new underground railway variant, Euskal Trenbide Sarea has begun the demolition of the structure, which will revitalize the urban environment of Pasai Antxo and free 2,800 square meters.
Euskal Trenbide Sarea (ETS) has begun to dismantle the old Pasai Antxo viaduct and the old Mole station two days after the inauguration of the new underground variant. Los began two days after the opening of the new underground terminal that is part of the Altza-Galtzaraborda railway variant last Saturday.
The Sustainable Mobility Counselor, Susana García Chueca, has inspected the start of work in Pasaia on Monday, highlighting the fulfilment of the commitment made by her predecessor, Iñaki Arriola, and the former mayor of the town, Izaskun Gómez, to ensure the immediate demolition of the old viaduct following the opening of the new terminal.
García Chueca has described this projectas"an example of excellent management" and recalled the impact that the work will have on the citizens: "It is a structure that was a few metres from some houses in the municipality and whose neighbours will have a better quality of life once it has been dismantled."
Work lasts 12 months
The demolition of the Pasai Antxo Mole viaduct will last 12 months. The demolition is extremely complex as it involves the removal of a 386 metre structure, retaining only the double arch above the Molinao River.
The action will result in the removal of the urban fence and the freeing of 2,800 square metres for the population. To protect the houses, the surrounding buildings will be inspected and tubular structures will be used to accumulate dust.
