A fire in Galar caused concern at Pamplona airport and cut off rail traffic
The authorities have issued an urgent public appeal asking the public not to saturate 112 to report this fire.
A forest fire early on Friday afternoon in the Navarre town of Galar has raised concerns as it reaches the perimeter of Noain-Pamplona Airport. The fire has forced the complete suspension of rail traffic between Pamplona and Noain and the closure of several road access points. Although the flames are very close, the emergency services have confirmed that thereare no injuries.
Early investigations suggest the fire could have been caused by a tractor working in the pool area.
Due to the magnitude of the fire, a large number of ground and air troops are working. The Government of Navarre has mobilized fire fighters from the parks of Cordovilla, Tafalla, Tudela, Peralta and Lodosa. Given the gravity of the situation, La Rioja has mobilized fire fighters from the towns of Calahorra and Nájera and a helicopter to assist.
Concern at the airport
The situation has become critical when the fire has reached the outer perimeter of the facilities of Noain-Pamplona Airport. For the time being, the operability of flights is not compromised, no air operations are scheduled in this slot. The intervention of the airport fire brigade has been key in perimeter control.
Rail traffic and roads cut off
Train traffic has been completely cut off between Noain and Pamplona/Iruña. Traffic interruption is affecting the long and medium route trains between Pamplona and Castejón, , eta is causing significant delays and changes in Renfe's usual programming.
On the other hand, the Foral Police has protected the affected area by road and ,as a preventive measure, cut off all access to Ezkirotz in order to facilitate the passage of emergency vehicles and avoid dangerous situations for drivers.
