Asparrena and Ezkabarte have been declared areas seriously affected by forest fires

The Spanish Government has declared the municipalities of Asparrena (Álava) and Ezkabarte (Navarra) affected by catastrophic emergencies, which will allow citizens, businesses and public administrations access to extraordinary economic aid and tax benefits .

The measure was announced by the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, at a press conference this afternoon, at which he reported that the areas affected by the 211 disasters between 31 March and 27 July, most of them forest fires, have been declared seriously affected.

As far as the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country is concerned, account has been taken of the fire on 23 June at Mount Galarreta in Asparrena, which was caused by lightning and took several days to extinguish.

In Navarre, the fire on June 26 in Ezkabarte is on the Spanish Government's list. In the forest fire on Mount Ezkaba, more than 400 hectares of land were burned and three villages evacuated as a precaution. 

Financial Aid and Tax Bonuses

The declaration of a person seriously affected by catastrophic disasters will extend access to extraordinary aid granted by the Ministry of the Interior to the citizens, companies and public bodies concerned. 

\u00The aid will be aimed at responding to damage to housing, premises, businesses or public services in towns, among others, as well as the activationof tax benefits. 

Forest fires have burned more than 170,000 hectares in the Spanish state this year, more than six times the area burned in the same period in 2025.
