They've perimeter and stabilized the forest fire in Llanteno

Theforest fire in Llanteno (Álava) is already perimeter and stabilized , after the fire brigade continued its extinction and containment work during the night to prevent the fires from reigniting.

For the time being, emergency teams are still working, and a helicopter is helping ground resources from the air. The priority is to secure the perimeter and control possible resurgence of flames or any other spotlight.

The development of the situation represents a significant step forward from the situation on Friday, when extinction services expected the fire to be under control throughout Saturday, while the wind was one of the main risk factors, as a strong windstorm could cause the re-ignition of some of the bulbs inside the perimeter.

Control work continues

In total, the fire has burned between 75 and 100 hectares. Work will continue in the next few hours to keep the area stabilized and advance final control.

In this context, thepools  Etxlehen will remain closed pending developments and instructions from the service managers.

The firefighters therefore maintain ground surveillance, aware that even if the fire is stabilized, control and cooling work willstill have to continue to prevent the flames from re-igniting and creating new hotspots.

They've reinforced the shutdown.

The fire, which broke out on Mondayafternoon between Ayala, Artziniega and Gordexola , in an area of pine trees, ferns and plants, was reinforced on Thursday and the Basque Government declared state 0 of the emergency phase of the Special Forest Fire Emergency Plan.

As a preventive measure, several houses were evicted in the neighbourhoods of Basualate, La Cabaña, Ureta and Abiaga. Some of the neighbours have stayed overnight in Artziniega or Llodio. Similarly, the A-3634 was cut off in the Llanteno areaby fire.

Fire extinguishment teams were reinforced on Thursday afternoon and evening, and firefighters from the fire parks of Llodio, Nanclares de la Oca and Espejo have been involved in the last few hours, supported by rangers, forest brigades and heavy machinery.

On Friday, they were joined by air assets, including several extinction helicopters and aircraft, which reused Artziniega pools to supply water to helicopters.
