35% of drivers have positive drug checks on CSC roads
In the 2,809 tests conducted by the Ertzaintza in the first five months of the year, 982 drivers tested positive for drug use, a decrease of 0.7 points from the same period last year.

The drug tests carried out by the Ertzaintza on the roads of the Basque Autonomous Community in the first five months of 2026 have been positive by 35% of drivers, according to information disseminated by the Department of Safety of the Basque Government, which shows a slight decrease in the positive rate from the same period last year, which was 0.7 points.
Specifically, 982 drivers tested positive for the drug, 2,166 tests were conducted between January and May this year, 775 of which were positive.
The high percentage of positivesis due to the fact that these tests are performed only on drivers who have previously performed the same result in the alcohol test, or who have obvious symptoms of being under the influence of drugs.
The highest positive rate (78.7 per cent) has beenfound among those who have previously broken a traffic rule. In the case of traffic accidents, slightly more than a third have been positive (35.7 per cent). Finally, the positive rate at road checkpoints has been 29.7 per cent.
