The new rehabilitation plan for the Old Town of Vitoria-Gasteiz will allow the installation of 35 hotels

The new 'Special Plan for the Integrated Rehabilitation of the Medieval Hull' ofthe Old Town of Vitoria-Gasteiz will allow the installation of 35 hotels in complete buildings. In addition,  will allow the maintenance of the licence for bars to be moved due to lack of space and soundproofing problems and the conversion of slabs into street housing workshops.

These are the main developments contained in the future urban development document, followingthe agreement reached by the Municipal Government (PSE-PNV) with the PP, which guarantees the votes necessary for the final approval of the PERI of the Old Town "before the end of this year".

  
City and Housing Councillor Borja Rodríguez and PP municipal spokesman Iñaki García Calvo appeared on Wednesday at a press conference to explain the terms of the agreement following the resolution of the 22 allegations submitted to the initial draft. Of these allegations, 13 have been accepted in total or in part, including all those submitted by the PP.
  
Major developments include the changein the regulation of the introduction of new hotels in the Medieval Hull. According to the initial approach, one hotel per block, the final document introduces a new criterion based on zonal quotas. Thus the neighbourhood is divided into three sectors: north, centre, and south.

The new system sets a ceiling for the establishment of 35 new hotel accommodation units in entire buildings for the Medieval Centre, which is themaximum amount that can be added to existing ones, excluding pension, accommodation and hostel services, and in the case of tourist flats, it is not possible to install new housing, since it is declared a strained area.

With regard to the new hotels, it establishes maximum and minimum distances for each of the three sectors. García Calvo has stressed that this sectorization of distribution is intended to "protect the habitability of the medieval hull, while at the same time providing greater flexibility, improving economic activity and boosting the dynamization of this emblematic place of the city".
